About Sally Dorer
Cellist Sally Gibson Dorer enjoys a varied career as an orchestral and chamber musician and teacher. She is a member of the Minnesota Opera Orchestra, and she performs frequently with the Minnesota Orchestra. Sally has performed chamber music across the US throughout her career and is currently a member of the Classica Chamber Players. She enjoys teaching, and in addition to her private studio, she has served on the faculty of Carleton College, Augsburg College, and the Northern Lights Music Festival teaching both cello and chamber music. Before moving to Minnesota, Ms. Dorer was a member of the New Mexico Symphony, the Santa Fe Pro Musica, and the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra. For five years, she was the Assistant Principal Cellist of the Florida West Coast Symphony (Sarasota Orchestra), and was a founding member of the New Artists String Quartet, where she performed chamber music recitals throughout Florida. She has performed at many summer music festivals, including Tanglewood, Colorado Music Festival, the Banff Centre, and Sarasota Music Festival, and Northern Lights Music Festival. Career highlights have included the 2016 Scandinavian tour with Minnesota Orchestra and performing on recordings of Beethoven Symphony No. 9 and Mahler Symphony No. 6 with the Minnesota Orchestra. A graduate of the New England Conservatory, Ms. Dorer also studied at the Eastman School of Music, and her cello teachers have included Timothy Eddy, Dudley Powers, Martha Gerschefski, and Joanna DeKeyser.
